Movie Swords

Samurai movie swords have always been a prominent feature in Samurai films of course, but the most famous Samurai swords seem to come from non-samurai films:

Blade Daywalker Sword

Blade Daywalker SwordIn the Blade movie series (I, II, and III), Wesley Snipes portrays a half-human, half-vampire hero who wields a custom, silver sword reminiscent of a movie ninja sword. He wears the sword in an imbedded scabbard on his back armor vertical along his spine.

As the story goes, Blade's human mother was bitten by a vampire while she was pregnant with him. She gave birth just as she was "dying" which made Blade only half-vampire. As an adult, this enabled him to stay out in the daytime (with his trusty shades, of course) unlike full-vampires. Blade (aka: the Daywalker) still gets the craving for blood, but he and his life-long friend Whistler have developed a serum that temporarily keeps the thirst at bay.

With his hatred and intimate knowledge of vampires, Blade is perfect weapon to protect humans against the sub-culture of vampires secretly feeding on humans. In order to do this effectively, Blade has become an expert in martial arts, guns, and a variety of bladed weapons including his namesake: Daywalker Sword.

As far as movie swords go, this Ninja-like Daywalker sword is especially unique for a few reasons:
  1. The sword is acid-etched silver-plated titanium, allowing Blade to instantly destroy any vampires upon contact.
  2. The sword had a defense mechanism in the handle. When a stranger picks up the sword, a small timer starts which can only be turned off by Blade himself. If the timer isn't turned off in time, 4 spring-loaded mini-blades pop out of the handle (tsuka) utterly destroying the stranger's hand. I think this is the only sword I've ever heard of that has its own defense technique! Cool!
The Daywalker replica sword is now officially licensed and made by United Cutlery. These swords are created from the same mold as the actual movie prop down to the last detail (sorry, there's no timer or spring-loaded mini-blades that pop out of the handle - that would be just too dangerous!).

The sword is 35 inches overall with a 26 inch blade. The blade is made with 420 stainless steel so it won't rust and it doesn't need to be polished.

The tsuka (handle) is made of zinc with a silver and black powder coating to give it an authentic look as in the movie.

Included should also be a black enameled display stand with the Blade logo.

Movie Sword Note: In the movie, the origin of Blade's longsword is never really given (in the comic books, he used katanas, not a straight ninja-like longsword). According to the movie script, Blade forged the Daywalker sword himself. However, previous drafts made reference to the sword having been used and passed down by previous vampire hunters.
